Can the system record from VHS/DVD Players?


Yes, any standard video or audio device can be connected to system.

Can the system record from a live camera feed?


Yes, any camera with a standard Composite or S-Video output can be connected.

Can you add chapters to recordings?


Yes, chapters can be added either when recording a live event, or when editing an existing recording.

Can I contact existing Planet eStream customers to hear their views on the system?


Yes, please contact us for a list of customers who can provide a reference.

Can we use our own server hardware and receive a discount?


Yes, we can deduct the cost of the Planet eStream Server Hardware from the price of the standard Planet eStream solution. Please contact us for a quotation.

Can we use our own Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Licence and receive a discount?


Yes, we can deduct the cost of Windows Server Enterprise from the price of the standard Planet eStream solution. Please contact us for a quotation.

Can the eStream system edit video/audio content?


Planet eStream can be used to trim the start or end of a recording. If more extensive editing is required then an editing package such as Adobe Premiere or Avid Xpress can be used and the resulting file re-inserted into the system.

Do you have to use a Planet eStream encoder to add chapters or broadcast existing content?


No, chapters can be added and existing content broadcasted via an easy to use HTML interface - once the user has been given permission.

Can recordings be scheduled?


Yes, the system can be scheduled to record from a video / audio source at specified times.

Does the client have to load any software on their machine?


No, all that a client requires is a standard web-browser with a standard embedded Windows Media compatible video player.

What spec of client machine is required to view content?


We recommend clients use a Pentium III or better.

Can the system record from TV?


Scheduled recording of television programmes is supported by the optional Planet eStream Digital Terrestrial TV Recording Module.

How much video can the standard eStream system store?


The disk array provided with Planet eStream has storage for approximately 3,600 hours of audio visual content, dependant on the quality (bitrate) of the content.

What support is offered?


As standard, Planet eStream is supplied with:

  • 12 months on Site Support (for Mainland UK Customers)
  • Access to our online knowledge base
  • 12 Months Telephone Technical Support
  • 12 Months Software Updates.

Support is extendable to 24 or 36 months at the time of purchase - please contact us for details.

How many users does the system support concurrently?


The effective connection limit is approximately 1,200 concurrent users, subject to bandwidth limitations. Connection and bandwidth limits are fully configurable within the system.

I have a slow internet connection. Can I use a 3rd party ISP to distribute my content?


Yes.

Does Planet eStream support set-top-boxes?


The system is compatible with any set top box that offers a Web-Browser and full Windows Media compatibility.

If we publish a live broadcast on our website, will the client have the ability to search the eStream system?


The content available to users is based upon the restrictions imposed in the HTML-based Administration Area. Alternatively, Links can be published to open content directly in Media Player.

Is Planet eStream compatible with a VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)?


Yes, links to content and chapters can be easily published to subjects within a VLE.

Can you add existing media such as mpeg/mov files to the system?


Yes, Planet eStream is supplied with software allowing you to easy import existing video/audio files via a simple drag & drop interface.

Can you add other associated media such as PowerPoint to the recordings?


Yes, related media from PowerPoint presentations, image files, or any other kind of media can be imported into the Planet eStream system.

Can Apple Macintosh users access the content?


Yes.

Can PDA's access the media?


PDAs that use a Windows Media compatible media player can access content.

Can mobile phones access the media?


Mobile phones running Windows Mobile can access content.

Can the client save the video/audio clips locally?


Yes, if they have been granted the appropriate permission via the HTML-based Planet eStream Administration Area.

Can the system broadcast existing media?


Yes, Planet eStream enables you to combine and broadcast any number of recordings (or parts of recordings). There are no limits to the number of broadcasts that can be created.

Does the system accept recordings that are Macrovision Protected?


Yes.

Can we change the website appearance (logos, etc)?


Yes, areas are provided for logos of your choice. As an option extra, we can also fully customise/brand the solution to fit your needs.

Can we change the field descriptions?


No, however we can provide full customisation/branding of the solution, as an optional extra.

How is access to the system protected?


Access can be password protected or/and restricted by IP address.

Does the solution integrate with LDAP or Active Directory?


Microsoft Active Directory is supported by the Planet eStream Active Directory Module. LDAP support is under development.

Can permissions be set per user?


Yes, the HTML-based Planet eStream Administration Area allows you to set a wide range of user settings, permissions and filters.

Does the solution support streaming of other formats, particularly Adobe Flash?


The system streams Windows Media content as standard. Adobe Flash streaming is also supported via the Planet eStream Adobe Flash Media Server (includes a Transcoding Module to convert media to the Adobe Flash format).
